Five elders at SunPorch of Dodge City brought home the gold, silver and bronze for their participation in the recent Senior Olympics in Cimarron.

The annual event attracted more than 80 elders from a total of 14 facilities in southwest Kansas.

“It takes a well-coordinated team to organize an event of this size,” said Gina Salmans, SunPorch activities director. “This fantastic team included staff, committee members and many volunteers.

“All of us at SunPorch thank everyone who was involved in preparing for this great outing. Our elders were supported by many SunPorch departments, including nursing, transportation, dietary, social services and public relations. If not for the efforts and commitment of everyone here, this simply would not be possible.”

The SunPorch Olympians participated in soccer kick; race walk; corn-hole toss; basketball toss; bowling; tennis target; Hula Hoop football; and Rockette kick.

“Our elders had so much fun participating in these games,” Salmans commented. “When you see everything come together like this, you know all the effort is worth every minute of it. It is just another testament to the SunPorch philosophy of caring for mind, body and spirit.”
